Sommarøy Arctic Hotel Tromsø

2nd part of my trip to Sommarøy - this time in the suite. The 2nd floor suite is beautiful, very comfortable with a spectacular view. Once again, everything is perfect and very clean - house keeping staff are amazing, very well organised. All staff in the whole hotel are wonderful - the reception team are very kind and welcoming. Transport from Tromsø was amazing as always... great driver (the one who does photography/wood work) he's such a kind person and always have really interesting conversations with him on the journey to/from Sommarøy. The hotel and grounds are all well maintained, the beaches are stunning and getting to see the Northern Lights in such a magical location is incredibly special. Loved my time on Sommarøy and at this wonderful hotel - can't wait to come back again :)) Thank you to all the hard working staff for making my stay so amazing!!

This is really a secluded location, very ideal for the seaview and northern lights. We managed to catch the northern lights here so this made the long journey to Sommarøy worth it. The bed and blanket is really very warm for the winter. We enjoyed our personal sauna too.

Reception very friendly and the hotel had a nice vibe overall, with great communal areas and a happy buzz amongst hotel guests. We sat and played boardgames the one evening we weren't aurora hunting, which was very enjoyable. No problems with parking. Room was spacious with very comfy beds and a great shower. Fantastic breakfast selection in a very nice dining area. We ate at the hotel both evenings too. Hotel has a limited menu for a longer stay and there's not much choice in the vicinity but our meals were fine - fish the first night and a burger the next. We had a hire car and so explored the islands around Sommaroy by car, including seeing the aurora on our last night which were incredible - very lucky indeed. Stunning scenery all around.

This hotel is very nice and a great place to stay for being outside the city lights and close to some amazing hiking. We were here over Easter and the northern lights were not visible but we knew that would likely be the case with the timing of our trip but I could only imagine how beautiful they would be against the dramatic backdrop. We hiked to the top of Hillesoya and Ornfloya both in one day. The Ornfloya is pretty easy, even with the snow still in the area. We had a clear blue sky day and the view from up top is spectacular. Literally able to see for miles. The signage for the railhead does not jump out at you. It is an old wooden sign that sits back off the road a bit and the name is carved into it and not painted. The path is sufficiently marked. Take a snack and sit down for awhile upon arrival and marvel at the world around you. The breakfast was plentiful and offered lots of choices for various appetites/preferences. The staff were all super nice and helpful. We charged everything to the room during our stay and just paid at check out, which was convenient. Rooms were comfortable with nice views off the hotel balconies. Comfortable beds. Loved the heated bathroom floors! There is a hot tub (need to reserve) or sauna (don’t need to book) that were lovely to use.

If you're going to be in a place where the weather may not always be great, the 3 bdrm Sea Cabin apartment with all its windows to bring the outside in is the place to be. It snowed and sleeted, but with so many big windows, we were perfectly content to stay inside and admire the spectacular views in front of us. From our windows, we could see the northern lights and we would run outside to get a better look. It's a good idea to bring plenty of provisions with you if you're coming from Tromso. There is a small grocery store a 10 min drive away, but it may not have your favorite brands. While the restaurant is good, it is pricey as most restaurants in Norway. Be sure to reserve the jacuzzi. That was a real treat. Would definitely recommend this place. We felt spoiled.
